Hillary Kim grew up believing the campfire stories that her Grandpa Benny told about the Pacific Northwest’s popular local legend—a Bigfoot or Sasquatch type monster that lurked in the majestic mountains of the North Central Cascades. As Hillary got older, she outgrew most of the childhood myths, but she had to defend herself from ridicule many times as a young adult, because her beliefs regarding the Bigfoot creature never really changed.
While in college, Hillary has the opportunity to combine her love of camping with the legends that Grandpa Benny told and re-told around many campfires. She starts work on a class project that takes her to the mountains to document the phenomenon of the mountain monster myth. There’s a recent surge in public interest in the monster, even in light of a deathbed confession of it being a hoax by Coots Riley, a regional character who for years claimed to have documented the monster’s existence. Renewed interest in the monster is fueled by a grocery chain’s huge cash award to anyone who can provide scientific evidence of the monster's existence.
Hillary’s belief in in the Bigfoot creature is so strong that she rejects the notion that the whole story was a hoax, even though the perpetrator claimed that it was. She feels that Riley’s declaration of a hoax may be hiding the truth about Teeshqually. And although she claims she’s not a “conspiracy theorist,†her words and actions have her friends and family quite worried about her.
The camping trip/fact-finding mission takes Hillary back to Revelation Ridge, a favorite camping spot of Grandpa Benny. While in a local town below the ridge, Hillary gathers more and more clues about her grandfather’s connection to the monster. Each step she takes brings her closer to the whole story, but puts her in ever-increasing danger.
