The Ugly Duckling

This story originated with Hans Christian Anderson, a Danish writer in 1843, about an egg that somehow is misplaced and ends up in the wrong nest. All through the spring, summer, fall and winter this young bird is bullied and teased because he is different. Feeling alone and abandoned, the Ugly Duckling hides during the winter. In spring he emerges as a beautiful swan and as his family of swans returns to the pond he is greeted by his real mother, brothers and sisters and is happy to be accepted. Meanwhile the ducks are in awe at the grace and beauty of the swan that was once the Ugly Duckling. An enchanting story told in flowing verse by the author, R.F.
