Brainwashing: From Pavlov to Powers

Brainwashing, an important first look at communist treatment of prisoners-of-war, was first published in 1956, and as an expanded edition in 1962 to include coverage of the Gary Powers U-2 spy plane incident (this kindle edition is based on the 1962 book). Beginning with the Russian Pavlov's study of behavior, author Hunter then examines the development of brainwashing in Russian and China and its use on both civilian populations and on POWs in Korea. Research studies and the prisoners' own stories are combined to make Brainwashing a classic study of this dehumanizing psychological weapon. Author Edward Hunter (1902-1978) was a long-time Asian correspondent and served with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II.
