The foundation of any journalistic effort are the 5 W’s. Who, What, When, Where and Why and How. These are the questions everyone needs to answer whether you’re writing an article or a novel. Therefore, the best way to illustrate how to write an article is to start with the 5 W’s.
In this case the who is you. Do you have what it take to write a great article? The gates are wide open for anyone to publish articles, will it be you who steps through? What you write about depends on who you are and what you’re interested in. You can find an audience for almost any topic as long as you demonstrate a genuine commitment to writing about it well. Timing is everything when writing articles. Being at the front of a trend is one key to getting your writing noticed. The benefits of writing articles are as varied as the person who is writing them. Determining the why is the foundation of setting goals for your writing. And the final W is where you want to publish. There are platforms that can reach millions of readers and some that may only reach a handful. Understanding who, what, when, and why will help you determine where.
But none of the 5 W’s will mean anything if you don’t know how to write an article. You must start with a firm foundation of writing skills. Also, you need to be able to research well. There are numerous sources of information. Knowing which ones you can trust is critical. You also need to understand how to give credit to the sources you use, and finally how to edit your work. If you can combine the five W’s and one H you can write successful articles.
