Peter Singh Deol is 26 years old, second generation British born son of Indian parents who came over from the Punjab in the 1950s. He is the youngest of seven children.
The Deol’s held a family gathering in London to discuss the inheritance after their father's death, and Peter volunteered to go to India and sort it out. He last visited India when he was an infant 23 years earlier. When Peter disembarked at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi he'd got the shock of his life. People referred to him as an NRI, but he had no idea what the term meant!
When Peter's cousins refused to hand back his share of the agricultural land, he was forced to take action within the Indian law and around it. In response, his cousins in Namapur were very angry and made threats against his life. The overall effect of this dispute made Peter regret ever coming to India, he was already finding it hard to deal with corrupt Indian officials and the villager's backward mentality.
