The president of the United States is speaking on the National Mall when an alien warship drops an abductor beam around him and ten other people. Tina Rodman is less than a second from being abducted with the president, but two time travelers from the future transport her to a safe house in a distant galaxy.

More alien warships surround Earth and drop robotic soldiers that land on the surface and melt people in the streets. The time travelers tell Tina that she can help them prevent the invasion if they inject microscopic intelligence-amplifying robots into her brain, but if Tina cannot find a way to stop the aliens, then she will never see her family again.
