Separated for three months due to his missionary assignment in South America, Dylan and Bethany reignite their passionate romance on a long weekend at a hotel outside the campus of Bethany's school Carnegie-Mellon. Their fervor and Biblical dialogues are heighten for Dylan is about to leave again, this time for two years to serve as a military chaplain. Though they know God’s hedge of protection is over him, the two must work out any fears they have about Dylan going to terrorist, anti-Christian hot spots, while savoring every moment with each other.
Their romance soon becomes a long distance one; Bethany at school in Pittsburg, Dylan traveling the world as part of Faith in Action, a government-funded program that provides extra chaplaincy to the Armed Forced. In addition to servicing the troops with spiritual guidance, Dylan’s theology is broadened as he engages in topical theological discussion with Christians of various denominations and clergy or other religions.
With the ending of the program, Dylan returns to the States. Though he is now free from travel and can live the life he always dreamed of with Bethany, some baggage from the battlefield still travels with him. Can his faith in God and Bethany’s love bring him through?
