The year is 1850. Catherine Hampton has been incarcerated in an asylum north of London.
She is said to have had inexplicable apparitions. However, Isabella Ascot does not believe her childhood friend to be insane. At the issue of a visit at the Hampton residence, Isabella notices that Raphael Daemon seems very attentive toward his step-mother, the woman who married Mr. Hampton recently. After snooping in Catherine’s room, Isabella discovers her friend’s diary in which the girl explains that her step-mother is pregnant with her step-son’s child. To resolve this terrible problem, Isabella calls upon Sister Agnes at the convent. The latter manages to have Catherine discharged in her care. Isabella and her father invite the Hampton’s to have dinner with them. Catherine shows up in the parlor. Mr. Ascot recounts the story that has almost cost Catherine’s life, thanks to Raphael and Eloise’s lies and fabrication. Mr. Hampton sends his wife and step-son away for good. Will Catherine ever recover from falling in love with Raphael – the “wrong love” of her life?
