David Ben-Gurion becomes the first President of the new state of Israel, gaining identity following the British Mandate for Palestine. Joe Louis takes back the heavyweight title while Mauri Rose wins the Indianapolis 500. Through and through, the forties was a decade full of people, places, and events that changed the course of human history forever.
