Description

Adi Shankara was an early 8th century Indian philosopher who consolidated and revived the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta and established four traditional schools still teaching today. He wrote commentaries on the principal Upanishads, treatises on the prescription and practises for enlightenment and other shorter works. This is one of the longer treatises at 1006 verses and epic in its scope. He spells out the qualifications for the aspirant and how to get them and proceeds to the satisfactory conclusion of the work. He answers the disciples questions in a straightforward way and explains the necessary disciplines.

Each verse is given a separate page and the reader is encouraged to explore the possible meanings in order to penetrate what is meant in some depth.
