The "Connections" section of this Holt, Rinehart, and Winston edition of William Shakespeare's fantastic comedy distinguishes it among so many other versions. Eleven related (and delightful) selections - literary and some not so literary - shed light on the play's universal appeal. The selections include: from "The Knight's Tale," THE CANTERBURY TALES by Geoffrey Chaucer; Mercutio's Queen Mab speech from ROMEO and JULIET; "Midsummer Night Is More Than a Dream," a magazine article by Jay Walljasper; "Woman's Constancy," a poem by John Donne; "Tin Tan Tan," a short story by Sandra Cisneros; The Daily Round (book excerpt) by Ivor Brown; "The Laugher," an essay by Heinrich Boll; "Mr. Moon," a poem by Bliss Carman; "The Fairies," a poem by William Allingham; "The Rebirth of Shakespeare's Globe," (magazine article) by Richard Covington; "Love Potion Number Nine,"(song lyrics) by Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller, as well as a biographical sketch of Shakespeare. With explanatory notes galore, HRW Library has made the text accessible. Instead of the usual flimsy paperback cover, the hard cover protects the text with more durability.
