America Is Me : 170 Fresh Questions and Answers on Black American History

Stanford University historian Kennell Jackson's unusual approach asks (and answers) several hundred questions about black history. The questions range from "What are some basic facts about Africa?" which counters popular misconceptions about the continent, to "What does the future hold for Black America?" which offers a series of optimistic predictions. The questions are arranged chronologically and include people, facts, and issues everyone should know something about. Most of his mini-essays are 1,000 to 1,500 words long, making this an ideal book for busy people or curious commuters.
