Tom Trueheart's six older brothers are famous. They go on exciting quests in the Land of Stories to complete tales the Story Bureau assigns them. Tom stays at home with his mother. But when his brothers fail to return from their latest adventures in time for Tom's twelfth birthday, a letter from the Story Bureau arrives . . . addressed to Tom. Only he can venture into the Land of Stories to find out why his brothers haven't completed their missions. Tom packs his bags and kisses his mother good-bye.
