The Mechanics of Solids and Structures

This is a broad based text in solid mechanics and structures in which worked examples and exercises are the main learning features. It emphasises those principles of mechanics that are common to traditionally different engineering disciplines including mechanical, civil, materials, and aeronautical engineering. The theme is directed to understanding the load carrying capacity of materials and structures used in engineering design and involves considerations on the choice of material, its physical shape, the manner in which it becomes stressed and how long it can be expected to sustain that loading.
