This Proceedings contain the papers presented at the 5th IFAC Symposium on Nonlinear Control Systems (NOLCOS 2001) held in early July 2001, Saint Petersburg, Russia. Nonlinear control systems form an important part of IFAC's technical activities, and this long-running symposium series has developed a reputation for excellence in the field.

Building on the tradition of past symposia, this Proceedings presents the state of the art in theory and applications of nonlinear control systems and related areas of research and engineering. The emphasis is on recent trends in these fields. Altogether over 270 papers are presented on a wide variety of topics.
