Into the Vortex: Female Voice and Paradox in Film

Focusing on 1940s films in which the female voice bears a marked formal presence, Sjogren demonstrates ways that the feminine is expressed & difference is sustained, arguing that these films capitalize on psychoanalytic, narratological & discursive contradictions to bring out & express difference, rather than to contain or close it down.
