Dialogue and Discovery is a rhetoric-reader that aims to help students to integrate their past achievements and experiences with academic expectations. The book stems from on ongoing conversation, initiated among its authors in the late 1970s, about teaching college writing. Central to that conversation is our belief that achieving a sense of autonomy and acquiring the habits of mind needed to write and think within the academy are not mutually exclusive goals.
