Infections of the Central Nervous System

The Second Edition has been updated and extensively revised and features 14 new chapters. New to this edition are discussions of neurologic manifestations of measles; poliomyelitis and post-polio syndromes; non-tuberculous mycobacteria; Whipple's disease; and Bartonella infections. Coverage of herpes viruses has been expanded to six chapters on the different herpes virus groups--herpes simplex virus; varicella and herpes zoster; cytomegalovirus; Epstein-Barr virus; human herpesvirus 6; and B virus. The discussion of chronic meningitis has been reorganized, with separate chapters on fungal meningitis and meningitis of non-infective or uncertain etiology. Coverage of protozoal infections has been expanded to four major chapters on malaria, toxoplasmosis, trypanosomiasis, and amoebic infections. This edition also places greater emphasis on patient management, including two new chapters on surgical management of CNS infections and neurointensive care of the critically ill patient
