Yet few people seem to find fun in architecture. Histories of architecture seem invariably to be compiled by tired historians who have gleaned their ideas from the leavings of all that made life and building interesting during the period described. A history of architecture on the Disparative Method is dedicaced to lovely young minds oppressed by dead and deadly dull scholarship. A series of short nonsense pieces containing a great deal of sense, it was written during the ten year period that started with Lady Bird's Johnson highway beautification program, and it examines the contradictions between our intentions and what actually happens, the things we daily agree not to see in order to preserve our current myths. During a varied career beginning as a laborer on a construction job and leading to a professorship of architecture with stops as a construction , sculptor, editor in chief of progressive Architecture Magazine, and author of numerous books on architeture. Wilson has been impressed by the fact that unlike law and medicine, architecture is a joyous profession. He hopes that this bit of nonsense sprinkled with fearful puns, double entendres, and the most shameless innuendos willl aid the reader in restoring some degrees of rational perspective to this area of his education.
