Corrosion and Its Control: Proceedings of International Conference on Corrosion CORCON '97, Nehru Centre, Mumbai, India, 3-6 December 1997

With advances in the field of oil exploration, refining activities, new generation power plants and other engineering industries, there is pressing need to run these activities efficiently, cost effectively and without any interruptions. The need for newer corrosion resistant materials, better on-line monitoring and detection techniques and instant technology for repair and rehabilitation is vital. Some areas where the increasing threat due to corrosion is being felt are: distress of buildings and structures, especially in highly aggressive environments, offshore platforms, oil and gas distribution lines, failure of critical components in high temperature regime in many chemical, petrochemical and refining plants. Thus, the need to update our knowledge in the latest advances in corrosion, mitigation and assessment led the India Section of NACE International to organize the International Conference on Corrosion, CORCON '97. Outstanding advances in research, applications and use of advanced materials of fabrication, corrosion assessment and remedial technique are presented in these proceedings. 16 Plenary, and 25 invited talks on the major aspects of the science and technology of corrosion and its control in various industries such as power plants, gas, oil and petrochemicals and topics on high temperature corrosion, corrosions protection by coatings, inhibitors and on-line monitoring techniques are covered in these 2 volumes. Nondestructive techniques to detect and evaluate corrosion damage, residual life assessment of components and life extension of plant components are also covered. In addition, 150 contributed papers in the form of oral and poster presentations are included.
