Natural products chemistry has evolved with growing emphasis on isolating bioactive natural compounds. The synthetic programmes are also directed towards bioactive natural products, many of which could hitherto only be obtained in small quantities from much larger quantities. However, they can be synthesized in much larger quantitities. Moreover, new analogues may be prepared which will have a higher activity and lower toxicity than the parent compounds. The present volume specifically covers the field of such bioactive natural products.
