Description
THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WORLD REGIONAL GEOLOGY
PART 1:
Western Hemisphere

This individual encyclopedia is a comprehensive reference source in world geology and physical geography by continents, regions, countries, and island units. The first of a two-part set, this volume deals with regions of the Western Hemisphere, as well as Antarctica and Australia. The second volume concentrates on the Eastern Hemisphere.

Volume 1 Abundant references to literature and geological maps; profusely illustrated and is cross-indexed in three different ways: in the alphabetic sequence ; at the end of each entry; and in the body of the text

The volume considers the regions of the world on a sliding scale of magnitude.

Close look is taken at the smaller spots, overseas territories, and isolated islands. These obscure or remote places are quite often areas previously not illuminated in general compendia by geological summaries or maps or richly endowed bibliographies. To remedy this situation to some extent, the encyclopedia provides a readily accessible analysis. For those parts of the world that are rich in literature and surveys, but heretofore mainly treated in foreign languages, there are summary articles translated into English. Throughout, the encyclopedia features much up-to-date information about world-wide mineral and energy sources, subjects of special interest today.

The search for information is made easier in this encyclopedia, as it includes the following special features: alphabetical listings; through indexing; complete literature citations with each article; cross-references at the end of each entry; tables of stratigraphic summaries for all major areas; physiographic subdivisions for larger countries; a useful, comprehensive author citation index; and illuminating illustrations, sketch maps, and profiles throughout.
