Each book in "The Chemistry of Functional Groups" series covers an aspect of chemistry of one of the most important groups in organic chemistry. Emphasis is placed on the functional group treated and on the effects which it exerts on chemical and physical properties, primarily in the immediate vicinity of the group in question and also on the behaviour of the whole molecule. This volume, the first of a two volume set, deals with organic compounds containing carbon-silicon bonds and derivatives with other heteroatoms. Recent developments in organosilicon chemistry are reviewed, including multiple bonds to silicon.
