The distinctive full-page floral patterns in this collection are specially designed to meet the challenges and requirements of the woodcarver's art, but they retain the realism and authentic detail of the original subject. Patterns for 21 flowers range from old-fashioned favorites like violets and roses to such exotic blossoms as tropical water lilies and birds of paradise. Each pattern can serve as the basis for a wide variety of projects, from an elegant carved wood box to a decorative wall plaque to a one-of-a-kind chair back.
In addition to the patterns, distinguished woodcarver Mack Sutter offers expert advice on carving, selecting woods, applying finishes, and choosing proper tools. Also included is a full-page photograph of each finished carving, along with botanical information about the flowers — dogwood, narcissus, hyacinth, poinsettia, Easter orchid, Mexican sunflower, and many more. Informative notes on the cultural and symbolic roles played by some of the flowers throughout history round out this excellent pattern and guidebook.
