From Dairy Farms to Gravel Mines: A History of Sherburne County's Hungarian Community

Betty Belanger has researched the Hungarian dairy farming community in Sherburne County, Minnesota, for many years. A native of Elk River and the daughter of immigrants herself, Betty has combined the stories she heard while growing up with the information gleaned from interviews with older members of the community, church and county records, and newspaper accounts, and has illustrated these stories with numerous photographs provided by descendants of the original Hungarian immigrants. The product of her work is this rich account of a unique community whose place in Sherburne County history should not be forgotten.
