A Galaxy of No-Stars

Spanning some 30 years from a devastating plague that decimates humanity, A Galaxy of No-Stars follows the lives of some of the survivors. Freed from the restraining templates society imposes on human nature, what emerges is neither a snarling, grasping anti-social beast nor a noble savage, but a more complex and nuanced reality. The familiar genre of the post-apocaplyptic novel here makes unfamiliar demands bringing into question virtually everything our current social order believes about human nature and morality, and challenging the reader to re-think, in the most fundamental manner, who we really are in relation to each other, to our society, and to the larger ecological order. We first meet the two most central characters as boys, growing up in the aftershock of cataclysmic change, and struggling with questions of identity and meaning in a strange and unprecedented world. Along with the newly-forming social clusters that embrace them, they must re-invent humanity. They find no easy answers. But they find the key questions. Ultimately, A Galaxy of No-Stars unfolds a story of hope for any human society that can rise to the challenge of addressing those questions in a new and thoughtful manner.
