Author Barbara Sorey covers early years of her parents settling and beginning their lives and her young life as a child growing up in segregated Clearwater, Florida. Know Where You Going? is the story of the African American family experience as told and seen through a child's eyes from the early nineteen 20's through the nineteen 60's. Know Where You Going? shows the never-ending love and encouragement of a family during the years when being "colored" was a classification of one's skin color and a determination whether access was granted to the simplest of accommodations.

Through it all, the author manages to tell a poignant story without bitterness and hostility, sharing the moments of togetherness with her family and their struggles to maintain a normal life through everyday experiences.
