"Sonic Chromatic Deaf & Hard of Hearing Artists Show 2009" is critically acclaimed book referring to the exhibition Sonic Chromatic which was held at Tamarind Art, New York City during the month of June 2009. Sponsored by Tamarind Art Council and Deaf Council, this unique exhibition showcased the works of ten Deaf or hard of hearing artists.

The exhibition "Sonic Chromatic" is an attempt to explore the intricacies and complexities of the deaf experience and to break the barrier between the Deaf, the Hard of Hearing and the Hearing communities via medium of art. In Contemporary Art world, works of art do not serve as a simple viewing of beauty or mere reflection of history, but rather become an IDEA. The idea is the medium of expressing the artist s thoughts, feelings, or concerns. In this exhibition, artists deal with various linguistics and semiotics - they explore how meaning is comprehended, they merge their subjective vision with the sense of illusion, explore human expression in modes of surrealism and conceptualism while enhancing the intricacies of the human mind. Purity of the elements is principle to many works that are included in this book.

"Sonic Chromatic" features the works of Jenamarie Bacot, Robin Bartholick, Randy Dunham, Patti Durr, John Fitzsimmons, Randy Garber, Leon Lim, Tracey Salaway, Robin Taylor, and Charles Wildbank. This group of ten deaf and hard of hearing artists communicate via their works created in variety of media including painting, printmaking, sculpture, video, and installation. Loaded with meaning, some of the artworks from this book depict the barriers and struggles of communication and what it means to be Deaf, while some artists deliberately seek to show that they are not drawing from their deaf identity and continue to create works of art that represent other facets of their persona. In addition to the different mediums, a wide range of artist styles are explored, from pure abstraction to photorealism, which highlight various unique creative processes. This book exposes the inner workings of each artist through revealing a common experience. Images of these artists works, their life stories, detailed interviews and inspirations are included in this historic, scholarly book, published by Tamarind Art Council, a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to promoting contemporary art in North America.
