Apparitions: Watercolor Paintings by Moira Hahn

California-based painter Moira Hahn's meticulously detailed watercolor paintings are inspired by nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock prints ('Ukiyo-e', also known as the 'Art of the Floating World') and animation. She worked as an animator in Hollywood before embarking on careers in illustration, and later, fine art. Many of her compositions draw from classical Japanese Kabuki theater and Bunraku puppet performances, many of which she attended in Japan, and her observation of interactions between wild birds and animals in her back yard. Her art has been featured in Time Magazine (including a cover), Juxtapoz, The New Yorker, Cosmopolitan, and the New York Times, in BoingBoing, and in numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums in the United States, Canada and Japan, including a solo show at the Pacific Asia Museum (Pasadena, CA), the Riverside Art Museum (Riverside, CA), and a two-artist retrospective at the Honolulu Museum (Honolulu, Hawaii). This is her first book, featuring 36 pages of color reproductions of some of her best paintings, creatively recombined and beautifully printed in China, in a handsome, small-format art book.
