Tutorial Introduction to Occam Programming

Written in co-operation with Inmos International (the company which created Occam), this book aims to give a comprehensive introduction to the latest version of Occam, a computer language specifically designed for fault-tolerant parallel processing. Occam is rapidly being recognised as a solution to the problem of programming concurrent systems of all kinds, and as a powerful and expressive calculus for describing concurrent algorithms. The language has a special relationship to the Inmos Transputer, which executes Occam programs more or less directly. In the book, the fundamentals of programming such as arrays, configuration, channel communication, characters and strings, real-time programming, and terminating concurrent programs are covered and examples are provided. The work should prove to be of interest to computer programmers, electronics engineers and system designers involved with the Transputer or parallel processing, but will be equally relevant for those who intend using occam on conventional computers.
