Description
It is 2005. In the backyard of a vacant home in Austin, Texas a woman is lying on a recliner by the pool. She is spectacularly beautiful. Her brilliant white cotton dress reflects the setting sun and large designer sunglasses and a floppy hat protects her face from the damaging rays. Her arm hangs lazily over the side of the recliner her hand touching a glass of wine that rests on the terracotta tile. It is like a picture from a magazine. She is dead.
It is now 2014 and the murder was never solved. Retired Scottish police detective Bill Ross is volunteering with the Travis County police and he is asked to assist in the investigation when the case is reopened. Who was she? Why did she die? Why was she staged in the backyard of this home? Tommy Ross is Bill's son.
Tommy was part of the original investigating team in 2003. He had joined the Travis County Police Department after leaving the Marine Corps where he served two tours of duty in the Bosnian conflict. He had just graduated from the police-training program and was out on patrol when he was asked to check out a home in the Riverside neighborhood. The owners were gone at their summer home in Colorado. A neighbor reported seeing activity at the vacant home the previous night and Tommy was asked to check it out. He found the woman dead by the pool.
It is 2014 and Tommy Ross is now a detective with the Travis County cold case unit. He and his detective partner Marie Mason both work for Detective Sargent Jack Johnson the head of the unit. The case is reopened and Jack agrees to employ Bill as a civilian volunteer. Bill's nickname in the Met had been Sniffer based on his almost uncanny ability to smell out inconsistencies in major crime investigations.
Experience the highs and lows as the team investigates the case. Be there when they think that they have found the missing link only for it to end up as a dead end. Feel the tension when the pieces finally begin to come together and they realize that they may be on the path of a sadistic serial killer. The End of Summer is a fast paced crime thriller. The cold case team traps the killer and closes the net around him. Be there and feel the excitement of the chase. Will they be able to bring him to justice before he kills again?
