Art of Glass: Flameworking

What is it about glass art that captivates and enthralls us? Glass is fragile, and yet it is commonplace in our lives. Glass appears solid, but the flameworked art in this volume was created from glass in a liquid state. Glass is affordable, but it is imbued with tremendous value when passed through a capable artist s hands. The International Society of Glass Beadmakers is proud to present The Art of Glass: Flameworking, the first in a series of publications that not only embraces glass art in every form but also, the makers who create it. This volume represents the glass community and the ISGB s support of all the glass arts as well as the widening of the organization s mission. That mission includes the preservation and celebration of the art of all glassworking techniques and the promotion of educational initiatives and professional development pertaining to those techniques. We strive to promote glass and its many complementary artistic mediums. The Art of Glass: Flameworking offers a glimpse of the variety of glass art created at a torch. In these pages, you will see beads, jewelry, sculpture, and functional items, many of which showcase the enhancement of glass when combined with metals, paints, or other mediums. You will also learn why artists are enthralled with glass and choose it as a material for self-expression. The world of glass art is vast.
