The suspense kicks in as soon as Max, Lucy, Professor Sponge (their grandfather), and Soap (the dog) embark on their adventure; "He [Soap] had found a bone--the biggest bone the professor had ever seen. It gave off a strange light." The first night, the intrepid trio camps in a dark, cold cave. Nice choice.
