Jazz Theory

From Preface: "...The text considers three areas in the study of jazz: by (1) theory, (2) practice, and (3) reference materials. Each chapter begins with a theoretical discussion of the given topic, followed by exercises designed to provide not only practical application of the knowledge just acquired, but also models for other similar supplementary exercises. At the close of each chapter, a discography lists recordings of each composition cited in the chapter, which I have selected to provide as wide a variety as possible of representative jazz styles. Also at the close of each chapter a bibliography lists relevant supplementary materials such as exercises and methods books, shorter theory books, and lesser known source materials such as magazine articles, doctoral theses, and books of transcriptions...."
