Bernie Rhodenbarr's capers continue with this adventure for the Greenwich Village bookseller who can't resist a little breaking and entering now and then. When Bernie breaks-in to Hank and Wanda Colcannon's apartment, he finds the place ransacked--but is still able to find a rare coin for himself. Unfortunately for Bernie, when the Colcannon's return from their trip, they surprise an intruder, who kills Wanda.
