Description
This is the story of East 17 from modest beginnings in Walthamstow to international fame and success. Leaving school without an O Level or GCSE between them, the boys concentrated all their efforts on becoming pop stars. Taken under the managerial wing of Tom Watkins, the man behind the early careers of Bros and the Pet Shop Boys, the band's single "House of Love" became a hit in the summer of 1992. "Gold", "Deep" and "Slow It Down" followed "House of Love" up the charts and East 17 appeared on their first magazine covers. They won second place in the "Smash Hits" Best British Group and Best New Group awards for 1992. East 17's first album "Walthamstow" entered the charts at number one. "West End Girls" (a Pet Shop Boys cover) helped the band secure their place at the top end of the charts. In May 1994, they released "Around the World" which tied in with a major UK and European tour. The next album "Steam" arrived in the pre-Christmas charts at number four and one of ths singles from that album "Stay" was the Christmas number one in 1994, keeping its slot for several weeks. The book contains a biography, fact file of each band member, quotations from the many interviews ths band have given, a discography and a colour poster.
