Particular attention has been given to the pathogenesis of disease and to the clinical correlations. Only by a knowledge of why and how disorders evolve is it possible to understand the changing dynamics of disease, the early developmental phases, the alterations that occur with time, and the many variations induced by the adaptive responses of both host and invader. Clinical correlation is stressed in the firm conviction that learning is maximal when the reasons for learning are evident.
