A bit of blackmail propels Richard Chance into the world of financial success. A sexual attack destroys Esther Bernfeld’s hopes for a normal life. The lives of the two intersect and eventually join. Richard goes into the world of J.P. Morgan and the financiers of the early 20th Century who made U.S. Steel and other great corporations. Esther’s direction is that of the Lower East Side of New York and the left wing political movement that peaks in the miner’s strike in the coal pits of Pennsylvania. Only the power of love transcends the traumas they both face and allows them to join each other.
