When two sisters are exiled from their native land, they embark on a national epic into their mythological world of Ancient Canada. Using Lavender’s unique ability to see life and death, she and Marigold attempt to stay within the narrow margins of survival. Their journey sweeps through Svalbard, Jan Mayen Island, Thule (Greenland), and the Siberian peninsula. Ancient Canada is told by the various characters and creatures encountered along the way. Each revolving narrator shares their personal background, beliefs, and wisdom as they see fit. The nineteen chapters of the novel not only bring you the sisters’ story, but those of Prince Oslo of Svalbard, an orphan boy, a fugitive bog man, and a tremendous bird-warrior, among others. Ancient Canada is a mythological world for a Western nation without its Odyssey, Beowulf, or Canterbury Tales. It may be unlike anything you’ve read in a thousand years.
