Description
802.22 is a proposed new IEEE wireless networking standard that addresses the two biggest issues in wireless broadband: 1) the need for more frequency space to accommodate more users, and 2) greater range and coverage area. These proposed Wireless Regional Networks (WRANs) will make use of vacant local television channels to deliver content in area quickly and even during high levels of traffic. As 802.22 users change locations, their PCs (or other devices) will determine which channels are vacant in the new location and seek wireless broadband on those frequencies.
802.22 is international in its design and will seek broadband access on all North American, European, and Asian TV channels. This book, written by two researchers instrumental in developing the 802.22 standard, describes the basic concepts of 802.22, hardware requirements, and how 802.22 uses cognitive radio techniques to find and connect to broadband wireless nodes operating on TV channel frequencies.
*The authors are on the IEEE committee developing the final 802.22 standard
*Learn the concepts and techniques need to implement Wireless Regional Area Networks (WRANs)
*Detailed discussions on trade-offs made in the determination of the standard
