Beginning Algebra

"Beginning Algebra, Fifth Edition", by M.A. Munem and C. West, is an excellent introduction to the principles of algebra. Some familiarity with basic concepts of arithmetic is presumed, but no previous background in algebra is required. The authors have taken special care to ensure the average student will be able to read and follow the development of each chapter. Special features include: real-world applications are drawn from the fields of business, life, physical and social sciences, and areas of general interest and daily life. Some of these applications serve as lead-ins and openers to each chapter; Graphing is incorporated throughout the text promoting visualization; margin notes have been added, providing insights and advice to students; and, a list of objectives has been added to the beginning of each section.
