Letter Perfect: The Art of Modernist Typography 1896-1953

Type permeates our visual world, as it is a primary means of communication. But, the printed letter can move beyond its function as a tool to become an expressive art form relating information with its appearance. The size, weight, color, and design of a typeface is as much a part of the message or idea as the choice of words or tone of the message.

Letter Perfect explores the artistic facet of the style, arrangement, appearance, and recent accelerated evolution of typeset matter, primarily through the medium of posters. The selections within the book are reproductions from the archives of the Print and Drawing Collections of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
