Dagestan: Russian Hegemony and Islamic Resistance in the North Caucasus

Like other majority Muslim regions of the former Soviet Union, the republic of Dagestan, on Russia's southern frontier, has become contested territory in a hegemonic competition between Moscow and resurgent Islam.
