Fremont, together with his wife, Jessie Benton Fremont, and some account of the period of expansion which found a brilliant leader in The Pathfinder. Fremont led expeditions into the Oregon Territory and mapped the Oregon Trail. He was a politician and army officer who lost his fortune in railroad ventures, later being saved from poverty through the writings of his wife, Jessie.
