Understanding Literature

A Survey of Fiction Excerpts from the classics are used to teach skills such as character development, setting, plot structure, and conflict/resolution. Students learn to appreciate literature more fully and independently. Reading & Writing Nonfiction Students learn about various forms of nonfiction writing, first by reading and then writing. Explores several essay formats: Informative, Classification, Analogy, Descriptive, Autobiographical/Biographical, Anecdotal, Logical Argument, and Emotional Appeal. Reading Level: 3-4 Interest Level: 6-12
