Dan O'Brien's story is amazing: he went from being a naturally gifted but undisciplined runner to becoming the world's top decathlete. Dan O'Brien's Ultimate Workout doesn't spend much time on his story, though; rather, the book tells you how he trains for his sport. Considering how few people there are training for decathlons at any given time, this seems like an odd decision. But O'Brien works hard to make the point that the stretches, runs, and lifts he performs can be done by anybody. He does a good job of explaining how to execute each and how to organize them into a productive workout program that nondecathletes can use.
