The radionuclides of iodine have the greatest versatility in labelling both hydrophilic and lipophilic compounds that are used in biology and medicine. The multiple techniques for iodination and the clinical use of iodinated products have made possible the present status of the development of diagnostic nuclear medicine. A considerable amount of information on this topic is scattered through the literature and the author has gathered this and presented it in an ordered and systematic fashion, covering the period to 1990. On the basis of his extensive experience in laboratories of nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, and radiochemistry, Dewanjee has produced a masterly, and above all practical book, directed at the gamut of readers, from basic scientists to clinicians and from students to experienced investigators.
