Follow Your Heart

Following the successful The Heart Knows No Colour, the story opens with the death of the once tyrannical patriarch, Sewcharran, and the focus is on the new generation of the large extended family of Harilakens, Balrajs and others. These families are wealthy and successful estate-owners. Sita is in her fifties. Her eldest son, Mukesh, is a handsome playboy who has no trust in women since finding out the secret of his mixed-race parentage. He falls in love with his brother's wife, Rohini, but rather than succumb to temptation, moves away from his family home to live on his uncle Gopi s estate. Other subplots involve the implacable Geeta's family. Her son Krishna is now married to the psychic, Shakeera; and Ajith, Geeta's youngest son, is stuck in a loveless marriage to the bossy Lata, while battling with his own sexual desires for Babur, a young man working on Gopi's plantation. Asha is married to Sirdar Baboo, a bullying drunk who beats her mercilessly. Although the story is a rich family saga, interweaving the stories of Sita's other children as well as her nieces and nephews, the main focus is on Mukesh and Rohini and their impossible love for one another.
