First published in 1980, this is a classic account of three decades of warfare in Vietnam, seen through the eyes of the inhabitants of My Thuy Phuong, a large rice-growing village in central Vietnam. This book combines an intensive case study of one Vietnamese village with the larger picture of modern Vietnamese political history from French colonialism through the communist victory in 1975.
