Joe Wilson was a God-fearing family man who was willing to sacrifice his own comfort for the sake of others. Through all of his trials, he was a loving husband and a friend to all who knew him.

Written by his widow, Estelle Wilson-Collins, The Death of an Angel: An Unselfish Love characterizes Joe Wilson’s life as one of love and happiness despite the trials around him. He was born in Alabama in 1928 and served in the armed forces for twenty years before settling in Louisiana and working at Southern University until his prostate cancer forced him to retire. Throughout his illness, he was thoughtful and considerate to all, and thankful for life’s blessings.

After surgery and radiation treatment, he went into remission for five years. When the cancer returned, he continually prayed that the Lord would spare his life, but in 1991 he resigned himself, saying, "The doctors have done their work, and now it is time for the Lord to do His."
